The Outdoor Industry Association announced Wednesday that its two winter trade shows will be combined into a single event starting next year, while the Premium Cigar Association announced its first event for consumers will be delayed until at least 2021.
OIA is the chief sponsor of the Winter Market and Snow Show trade shows. Both are owned by Outdoor Retailer, which itself is owned by Emerald Expositions. Winter Market had been held in Salt Lake City for many years before moving to Denver last year. The next Winter Market was scheduled for November, but Outdoor Retailer said in a statement that it and OIA agreed to cancel the event and merge it with the Snow Show, which will be rebranded the Outdoor + Snow Show. The combined event will be held Jan. 29-31 in Denver.
"Our job at OIA is to listen to our members, to be innovative and to support the timing of the trade shows to create the highest return-on-investment and efficiency for the outdoor marketplace," OIA Executive Director Amy Roberts said in a statement. "It is clear now that the industry would like one consolidated winter show and we support Outdoor Retailer's decision to bring the two winter shows together under one roof and in one timeframe."
Exhibitors and sponsors already contracted for Winter Market 2019 will have space on hold and available to them for the show in January, Outdoor Retailer said.
PCA—formerly International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers—also announced a change to its trade show on Wednesday. The group had previously planned to hold its first event for consumers—CigarCon—in conjunction with its 2020 trade show in Las Vegas. However, the group said in a statement on its website that CigarCon will not take place next year and "will be considered for 2021."
PCA didn't give a reason for the delay. However, the group said it is creating a subcommittee to focus exclusively on CigarCon "and expects participation from all classes of retailer and associate membership."
